How to prepare for plastic free July? 如何准备过一个没有塑料的7月?



The Plastic-Free Foundation is a not-for-profit organization that has the mission to create a cleaner world reducing plastic waste. Through annual social media challenges, it definitely challenges participants to help to sustain the world.

无塑料基金会是一个非盈利组织,其使命是创造一个更清洁的世界,减少塑料垃圾。通过每年的社交媒体挑战,它无疑对参与者提出了帮助维持世界的挑战。

The Foundation was built in Western Australia in 2011 and has grown from a few challenges’ participants to millions of participants across more than 170 countries worldwide.

This year #choosetorefuse challenge consists of giving up single-use plastic in July, are you up to it?

Let’s check how to join Plastic Free July #choosetorefuse challenge step by step: 让我们一步一步来了解如何加入“7月零塑料挑战”:

Step 1: Sign up to the official website https://www.plasticfreejuly.org/register.html. The Foundation will email you with recipes and tips throughout July.

步骤一:通过官网注册:https://www.plasticfreejuly.org/register.html. 基金会在整个7月都会通过邮件告诉你方法和小贴士。

Step 2: Take the Pesky Plastics Quiz. It will help you understand your current situation (you can actually take the quiz twice before starting the challenge and after to see how you improved!).

Step 3: Take action! In this section called Action Picker, you have the opportunity to mark what you want to be different during your challenge and of course after it. For example, if you think you can avoid pre-packed veggies, mark it! You can start step by step marking a few of them or all of them and going completely plastic free. This is your choice.

Step 4: Explore their Toolbox Tab that consists of creating word of mouth: chat with other participants, ask for new environmental policies and so on.

Step 5: In today digital world, social media has a leading role. It is important to show your progress online tag @PlasticFreeJuly and use the #PlasticFreeJuly and #ChooseToRefuse hashtags. It will make other people interested or curious and you will influence positively others to join this challenge.

Lets’ check some tips that will help you to better prepare for this amazing and environmental-friendly challenge (no need to wait July to start it!).

1. Choose No Pre-packed Veggies and Fruits/不要选择预先包装好的蔬菜和水果

Bring your own reusable shopping bag when you go to the supermarket and always prefer loose veggies and fruits that are not prepacked in plastic films.

当你去超市的时候,带着你自己的可重复使用的购物袋,并且选择散装的蔬菜和水果,不要那些预先包装在塑料薄膜里的。

2. Say No To Plastic Bottles/ 对塑料瓶说不

Instead of plastic bottles that produce a huge amount of waste choose reusable bottles that you can refill. Especially if you work in office that usually provides water dispensers or before going to the gym just refill it with water/juice and take it with you.

不要选择产生大量浪费的塑料瓶,而是选择可重复使用的瓶子,这样你就可以重新装满。尤其是如果你在办公室工作,通常会提供饮水机,或者在去健身房之前,只需要装满水或者果汁,并随身携带。


3. Reduce/Avoid Waimai / 减少或避免外卖

We all know that it is very convenient to order food at home while we are lying on our couch. But let’s not forget all the waste that the single-plastic food packaging produces. My personal suggestion is to try your best to cook at home (it is healthier and environmental friendly). If you really cannot bear the idea of cooking every day just try to reduce the frequency of the orders and prefer restaurants that provide food with simple and environmental friendly packaging.

我们都知道,当我们躺在沙发上的时候,在家里点餐是很方便的。但我们不要忘记一次性塑料食品包装所产生的大量垃圾。我个人的建议是尽量在家做饭(这样更健康,更环保)。如果你实在无法忍受每天做饭的想法,那就试着减少点餐的频率,选择那些包装简单、环保的餐馆。

A small tip for Elema App users: before proceeding with the payment, click on the option not need cutlery-选无需餐具so they will not deliver the single-use cutlery and you can use your own ones. As you can probably expect, there are some restaurants that do not really care and still deliver them so you can write no need to provide cutlery, thanks-请不用提供餐具 谢谢in the comment section, IT WORKS!

4. Avoid Plastic Wraps / 避免塑料包装

If you have leftover food to be wrapped or need to take sandwiches to a picnic, just simply use your lunch-box. I suggest you buy the one with cutlery already included that are also extremely convenient if you are planning to eat outside. Lunch-boxes are actually safer for eventually leaking of water or oil.

如果你有剩菜要打包,或者需要带三明治去野餐,只要用午餐盒就可以了。我建议你买一个已经包含餐具的午餐盒,如果你打算在外面吃的话也非常方便的。午餐盒也更卫生安全

As wrap alternative, you can buy beeswax one that can be reused several times.

5. Say No To Take-Away Coffee/ Milk tea Cups / 对外卖咖啡和奶茶杯说不

When you go to Starbucks to drink your favorite soymilk cappuccino (I am sorry, I just love it!) you can actually ask if they can put it in your reusable coffee-cup. There is a lot on the market, you can buy and take it in your bag. If you forget to bring it with you but plan to stay in Starbucks for the whole afternoon, ask directly for a mug and not the take-way cup.

当你去星巴克喝你最喜欢的豆浆卡布奇诺(对不起,我只是喜欢它!)你可以询问是否可以装在你自己的咖啡杯里。市场上有很多,你可以买一个随身携带。如果你忘了带杯子,但打算在星巴克待上一下午,直接要一个杯子,而不是外带的杯子。
